Kindergarten

Mrs. Bonnie Yount and Miss Emily Kadlec Aide: Mrs. Sheryl Pilling

Mrs. Bonnie Yount

This is my seventh year at INCA.  I graduated from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and am married to Russell Yount.  We have an 80 pound 2 ½ year old golden retriever named Barnabus!

I teach the three day a week Kindergarten class, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  In Kindergarten we use Abeka for Phonics and Houghton  Mifflin for Math.  We work on blending letters to make words and then sentences.

Our cowboy unit is so much fun.  We make beans and weenies and sing cowboy songs.  We take a field trip to the Texas Roadhouse restaurant for a really fun tour.  Another fun activity is “Storybook Day” when the kids dress as a storybook character, and we have quite a parade throughout the school.

As a teacher, my guiding principles are “go with the flow” and “seize the day”!

Mrs. Sheryl Pilling

When my husband Paul and I enrolled our daughter in preschool at INCA 14 years ago, it was the beginning of our relationship with this special school! Our daughter, Karen, and our son, Nathan, were both blessed to graduate from INCA so I know the value of a quality Christian education as an educator AND as a parent!

Three mornings a week I have the privilege of assisting two excellent Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Yount and Miss Kadlec! Kindergarten is an exciting place to be as you experience the wonder and joy of helping students progress from mastering their letter sounds to blending letters to actual reading!

I am a graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. I taught six years before becoming a full-time mom. My husband Paul is an engineer at Rockwell, and we have two children, Karen who is a freshman at Dordt College, and Nathan who is a sophomore at Cedar Valley Christian. In 1997 I began working as a part-time assistant at INCA and have enjoyed watching students grow over the years!

I assist both Kindergarten classroom. Each morning I work with six different groups of students, focusing on phonics skills. I also am known as the Kindergarten photographer who loves to capture the memories of this fun stage of learning! I help each child develop their personal Kindergarten Book of Memories. . . a special keepsake of their year.

Kindergarten is a fun place to be! It is a joy to help nurture, encourage, and assist children in a Christian environment where we can openly work together to become who God wants us to be.
