First Grade

Mrs. Mary Foster and Miss Sarah Taylor

Mrs. Mary Foster
mfoster@incaonline.org

I’ve taught at INCA for over five years, in the junior high, second grade and for the past several years in the first grade.  My husband of 30 years is Barry, the Pastor of Cedar Rapids Christian Center.  We have four grown children; two are married and two are in college at the University of Kansas.  Both my husband and I graduated from KU as well.  The highlight of our past year was becoming grandparents for the first time!

Our first grade class is always busy!  We work very hard.  In the morning we study math and spelling.  In the afternoon we have phonics, reading,  Bible, and either History, Science or health.  Each day we attend a special class in music, computer or physical education.

I believe that every child deserves to be respected, to be cared for, to be taught, and to be introduced to Jesus and God’s Word.   Isaac Newton is a great place to do that!

First Grade and Physical Education

I graduated from Iowa State University in May of 2007, and have recently moved back to Cedar Rapids to begin my teaching career at Isaac Newton. I was raised in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from Washington High School – go Warriors!

Each day I work with half of the first grade students in either math or reading.  It works out well because when Mrs. Foster and I divide the class this way, there are only 12-13 in the class for these important foundational classes.

Throughout the week I meet with K-5 students for physical education, where we spend time on fitness, playing sports, games, and developing good sportsmanship.

I believe that all children are loved by God and are capable of success in learning.  It is a privilege to be entrusted with one of the Lord’s most precious resources – His children.
