Set Your Sights On Scripture:

“Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,”

Third Grade

Mrs. Mary Lour Getz
mlgetz@incaonline.org

Mrs. Mary Lou Getz has been teaching at Isaac Newton for 16 years.  She is the youngest of 13 children, and was raised on a farm in Pennsylvania. She and her husband Dennis have two grown children and four grandsons.

“A typical day in my classroom has a lot of variety,” said Mrs. Getz.  “We always start each day with a class in Bible, using a curriculum from Summit ministries called Building on the Rock.  One of my goals in Bible is to direct the students to love, obey, and know God.”

Class time includes instruction, drill, games and discussions, and most of the third grade curriculum is either from Abeka or Bob Jones, however, the new math curriculum is published by Houghton Mifflin.

“One of the fun units that I teach is on Native American Indians,” said Mrs. Getz.  “The students each build their own authentic Indian shelter!  Another fun unit is on nutrition.  At the end of the unit we make a grocery store, and the students shop for the foods needed for a balanced diet.”

Mrs. Getz believes that education must be based on a true premise.  “To learn truth, God must be the center of our whole educational system.  If I am to teach our students wisdom, it can only come from God and His Word.  When I teach, I feel it is important to take a child from where he is academically, and then take him as far as he can go!”
